Hello again, and welcome to another Get Smart Home Office Blog post. Today, I welcome everyone to pay attention to the newly released Turtle Beach Atlas Air Wireless Open Back PC gaming headset with the first-of-its-kind floating earcup capability. From a simple perspective, this is a piece of equipment used while gaming or for someone who spends a lot of time tied in front of their computer screen, but this just might alter your perception of what a headset is all about.
Unboxing and Initial Impressions
As soon as you unpack the Atlas Air, you are greeted with a sense that Turtle Beach has given a lot of prime focus to infrastructure and quality. The construction of the headset is impressive. It’s an open-back headset that is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable for extended hours of gaming.
Inside the box, you’ll find:
- The Atlas Air headphones
- A detachable mic
- A USB-C charging cable
- A 3.5mm cable for wired connections
- A wireless dongle
Unique Features and Design
Another thing that gets your attention at first glance with the Atlas Air is that it features floating ear cups. With this concept, one can easily twist and rotate the earcups to give that befitting comfortable touch on our heads. Also, the open-back arrangement contributes to lightness and wearing the headset for long hours is like wearing nothing.
On the left side of the headband, there is a significant mechanical volume control that provides easy operation during the game. The detachable microphone, facilitated by a flip-to-mute button, is an added feature, so the headset is suitable for gaming and communication.
Connectivity and Setup
The hardware connection of the Atlas Air to your PC is effortless. Some of the obvious parts are charging via the USB-C port and a 3. 5mm jack for a wired connection. The device supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB. To enable wireless connectivity, the device is packed in a dongle that provides low latency when in use. After pairing, you can control all your Turtle Beach devices using the Swarm 2 app and manage your gaming peripherals overall.
To get started:
- Connect the wireless dongle to your PC.
- Press the power button on the headset. If switched off, it will turn on, and vice versa.
- You will hear an audio cue in the headset indicating that the wireless mode is active.
- Use the Swarm 2 application to manage and configure your Turtle Beach devices for a unified interface.
Performance and Testing
First, I was quite pleased with the sound quality and comfort the Atlas Air provided throughout my testing. This makes the open-back design ideal for positioning since it offers a wider soundscape and helps pinpoint the location of the various sounds produced in the game. The remotely mounted mic is good quality with sound clarity and features a touch switch to mute the mike.

- Game-specific configurations
- Other options like notification ringtones, lights, and other features
Mic Test and Audio Quality
Voice chat using the mic on this headset was very clear and noiseless, which is commendable for gameplay. Perhaps the only issue little to do with the build is the mic sensitivity, though this should be normalized to ideal preferences as well. With high-fidelity wireless audio, you are assured of the best sound quality during Bluetooth or through a wireless dongle, boosted by 24-bit resolution.
Structure and Build
Unlike the closed-back versions, this headset doesn’t isolate your head—it employs breathable elements and keeps your ears cool during gaming marathons. The overall construction is dense and sturdy, but the weight of the headset is reasonable, and you don’t feel it on your head at all times.
The detachable microphone also helps in adding flexibility to this headset since you may have to take it off most of the time. Everything that pertains to the exterior part and frame of the Atlas Air has aspects of quality and strength.
Compatibility
The Atlas Air works perfectly with a number of devices:
- PC
- PS5
- PS4
- Nintendo Switch
- Mobile devices
